The first zoo we went to is Planckendael in Mechelen, Belgium. I went there when I was just a little girl, but a few years ago they renovated the entire place. I don't remember much of how it was before, but it sure does look great now! The entire zoo is divided into five continents: Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Whenever you walk into a new part, there is a sign that says where you are, what animals you'll be seeing and how long it will approximately take you to to finish this route.
It's hard to pick a favourite, because each continent had its own feeling. When we were on the Africa-route, we got to see some amazing giraffes up close. The whole America-route had a great western-vibe. And the Oceania-route had koala bears ánd kangaroos. What's not to like about that! One of the things I loved most about it, was that all animals seemed very well taken care off. They all looked content and each one of them had an area to reside in that was equipped to their needs.
It's also a great place to go with kids. Besides all the great animals you get to see, there is a huge playground, an animal-carrousel, a falconry show, and tons of other stuff to keep them entertained.
We will be back for sure!
