While they're not really my favourite flowers, they sure do scream "spring's here!". So I was eager to get a great bouquet, but boy, those flowers are expensive! I went to the local flower shop and she told me that they don't even have them in stock because they're just too expensive and they only get them when you order them first.
I did eventually find some and the bouquet turned out quite nice! Nothing like some colorful flowers to brighten up your house!
We don't have a very big yard, so there is not a lot of space to work with to create a homemade waterpark. One thing we bought to make this happen, was a pool with a sprinkler and a slide built in, so it didn't take up a lot of room.
Not a large pool to swim around it, but enough to keep us cool during the hot months to come. My daughter and I had a blast hanging around the yard!
What we see most in our garden, are flies. So.. not very idyllic. Which is why this idea sounded great. When we were on our last trip to Intratuin to pick out our flowers to plant in the garden, we found a mix of flowers to grow that would appeal to butterflies.
All we had to do, was mix the 2 bags in a bowl, spread them out over some potting soil and make sure to give them plenty of water. Easy enough!
The first two weeks nothing really happened and we were wondering if we might've done something wrong, but then one day we looked outside and it had really started growing.
From then on, it kept growing and growing, but it stayed green and to be fair, it looked like we had planted just a bunch of weeds you find on the side of the road. And we hadn't seen any butterflies either. But then, just as quickly as it had started growing, there were flowers in all colors growing and we got visited by 5 butterflies in one day. Honestly, it still does look like weeds for the most part, but the tiny flowers and butterflies make it worth it!
So all in all, mission accomplished!
Last year we gave our garden a much needed spruce up. We got rid of all the grass that was there (which was mostly weeds anyway) and threw away our outdoor furniture. We put down new grass, bought new furniture, planted some trees, bought a fun outdoor playhouse for our daughter.
Because it looks better now, it's even more fun to pimp it up from time to time.
So a few weeks ago we went out to a huge garden departement store in The Netherlands, that we really like, called "Intratuin". They only have a Dutch website, so I don't know how much you'll be able to make of it, but it's basically like Ikea but with nothing but stuff to use outdoors.
We picked out some great plants and had fun getting them all garden-ready.
.When you think about spring, you just picture blue skies, baby animals, green grass and sweater weather. However, where I live, we get lots and lots of rain during the first months of spring. So one way to help you realize it actually IS spring, is to surround yourself with tons of beautiful flowers.
My favourite flowers are tulips, especially closed tulips. They're just simple and colorful and work in every room. And, a nice bonus, they're not expensive at all! We have a supermarket not far from here that has a flower-section and they often have tulips on sale. A few weeks ago, you could get two bouquets of tulips for only 6 EUR (or $7). Score!
I'm not a big movie fan and I've never been tempted to watch most old movies, but this is definitely an exception. I know (and love) the song, of course. So I was eager to see if the rest of the movie was as catchy as its title song.
We picked out a rainy evening in April and cuddled up on the couch.
I love the movie more than I thought I would! The story felt very modern and we even had a few laughs. Some of the songs went too long for me, but I guess that's just personal taste.
When the movie was over, I did look it up on IMDB and one of the things that I thought was amazing, was the fact that Gene Kelly actually had a very high fever during the day they were supposed to film the "singing in the rain" scene. So they only had one take to get it right and they didn't have the dance routine ready. So he improvised most of it.
Knowing this makes the movie even better!
