What we see most in our garden, are flies. So.. not very idyllic. Which is why this idea sounded great. When we were on our last trip to Intratuin to pick out our flowers to plant in the garden, we found a mix of flowers to grow that would appeal to butterflies.
All we had to do, was mix the 2 bags in a bowl, spread them out over some potting soil and make sure to give them plenty of water. Easy enough!
The first two weeks nothing really happened and we were wondering if we might've done something wrong, but then one day we looked outside and it had really started growing.
From then on, it kept growing and growing, but it stayed green and to be fair, it looked like we had planted just a bunch of weeds you find on the side of the road. And we hadn't seen any butterflies either. But then, just as quickly as it had started growing, there were flowers in all colors growing and we got visited by 5 butterflies in one day. Honestly, it still does look like weeds for the most part, but the tiny flowers and butterflies make it worth it!
So all in all, mission accomplished!
Last year we gave our garden a much needed spruce up. We got rid of all the grass that was there (which was mostly weeds anyway) and threw away our outdoor furniture. We put down new grass, bought new furniture, planted some trees, bought a fun outdoor playhouse for our daughter.
Because it looks better now, it's even more fun to pimp it up from time to time.
So a few weeks ago we went out to a huge garden departement store in The Netherlands, that we really like, called "Intratuin". They only have a Dutch website, so I don't know how much you'll be able to make of it, but it's basically like Ikea but with nothing but stuff to use outdoors.
We picked out some great plants and had fun getting them all garden-ready.
